About me

Hi, my name is Pantelis Liolios. I currently hold a tenured teaching position at the School of Mineral Resources Engineering of the Technical University of Crete, where I also earned my PhD in Rock Mechanics. My PhD thesis was titled "Hyperbolic failure model for materials with cohesion and internal friction".

Since 2014, I have been teaching Rock Mechanics and Rock Blasting Engineering at undergraduate level. I also provide, or have provided, teaching assistance (laboratories and tutorials) in Surface and Underground Mining, Engineering Geology and Fracture Mechanics. At postgraduate level, I have taught Advanced Geomechanics, including non-linear finite elements. You can find a list of the courses that I teach or have taught in the past in the teaching section.

My research interests include computational mechanics, constitutive modeling of materials, rock mechanics, numerical modeling, geomechanics, rock blasting and fracture mechanics. Alongside my research, I develop scientific software and web applications for engineers. I currently use Python; previously I used MATLAB, PHP and Java. If you are interested in what I am working on or have worked on in the past, see my projects. For my research, see my publications.

In the blog, I write technical articles on Continuum Mechanics, Rock Mechanics, Computational Mechanics, Rock Blasting Engineering or anything else I find interesting that does not strictly fit these categories. I also share Python or MATLAB code whenever it is useful. You are welcome to use the content for educational purposes, but please cite pantelisliolios.com as the source.
